We're excited it's finally time for The Summit 2018! Below you will find many travel details and guidelines for the upcoming weekend. Please have this information handy to refer to throughout the weekend. For a complete performance order and competition information please go to The Summit Coverage Page on Varsity.com
Venue Information
The competition will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort. We will be staying at the Disney All-Star Resort and be using the buses provided by Varsity to shuttle teams and parents back and forth throughout the weekend. It is imperative that all athletes are on time, as it takes a while to get from one place to another.
Arrival
All athletes must pack uniform, bow and shoes in their carryon bags. If you decide to use the Yellow Luggage tags provided from Disney, keep in mind that your luggage may not show up to your room for hours after your arrival. Put everything you need for that day in your carry on so that you are not without your shoes or practice wear or something necessary for that day. You can also choose NOT to use your yellow luggage tags and just carry your bags to your hotel room yourself.
Everyone traveling and staying at the team hotel will pick up their own room keys, park hopper passes and lanyards for the weekend. If you are sharing a room with another family, the person who will be arriving at the hotel first will pick up the package for the entire room. However, if you did not provide KC Cheer with your flight information the room contact will be under whomever in the room did turn in their flight information. Be sure you communicate with those you are sharing a room with to make arrangements to meet them.
Your park hopper pass is the plastic card that comes with your lanyard and those bracelet things. This is how you get into the parks and ESPN. Once you receive this card, be sure to take pictures of the backs of all of them. If you have a photo of it, this is how you will replace them if you lose them. The bracelet thing with Mickey's face on it is the key to your room.

Curfew
KC Cheer will be enforcing a strict 10:30 p.m. curfew for all team members. This means all athletes must be in their rooms at 10:00 p.m. with lights out by 10:30. This does not mean leaving a park at 10:15 because your curfew is at 10:30. You will not make it back in time. The staff will be strictly monitoring this, and athletes found outside of their rooms after curfew will not compete the next day.
You received an email from Mary a few days ago with general info from Varsity about arrival/registration/competition info. That letter is linked below:
We realize that this event is taking place in Walt Disney World, and are excited to allow our athletes the opportunity to go to the parks and spend time at the hotel pool in their free time if they arrive on Wednesday or Thursday. Please note that the priority for the weekend is to perform with your team and support KC Cheer, and this is not a vacation. There will be no swimming allowed starting on Friday (Saturday for At-large teams) until after you're finished performing for the weekend. It is imperative that you are on time to all of your team meetings and practices, and adhering to the curfews put in place by the staff. It takes approximately 1 hour to get from a park back to the hotel on a Disney bus, and you cannot get to the Wide World of Sports directly from a park. Please keep this in mind as you plan your days so that you are not late for practices, meet times or curfews.
Schedule
Since the Summit is a postseason event, teams are not guaranteed to perform all three days. They must make it into finals, so we do not have concrete performance times for all teams for Saturday or Sunday, and won't until we know the results of Wildcard and Prelims. Please refer to the "KC Cheer Summit Schedule" Google Doc linked below throughout the weekend for updated performance times. The schedule will be updated as information becomes available.
If the Google Doc and the website say two different things, listen to the Google Doc.
When we get to the hotel, we will designate a "meeting spot." This is where teams will meet to walk over to get the bus to the event. Varsity provides buses to ESPN at Celebrity Hall, which is in the parking lot of All-star Sports. If you use the Disney Magical Express from the Airport, this is where you will get dropped off at the hotel. You cannot use the buses at the front of the hotel to get to ESPN, you have to use the ones at Celebrity Hall.
KC Cheer Summit Schedule
Thursday, May 3
- Frost and Force will have practice at 6:00 and Fever and Fame will have practice at the hotel at 6:30. They will wear their Summit Practice wear.
- Following practice, teams will have the evening to themselves, but must adhere to 10:30 curfew.
Friday, May 4
IMPORTANT: You must have your lanyard and park hopper pass to get on the bus and into ESPN
Teams with WILD CARD bids will perform on Friday. They will wear their Red Bows and Team Summit Tanks over their uniforms. Please refer to the master schedule Google Doc linked above for performance times, and specific team schedules linked below for meet times/logistics/etc.
Saturday, May 5
IMPORTANT: You must have your lanyard and park hopper pass to get on the bus and into ESPN
Teams with AT LARGE BIDS will have their first performances on Saturday. Since teams performing on Friday must advance from the Wildcard into semi-finals, the schedule is based on what concrete information we have for Saturday. This WILL CHANGE if teams from Wildcard advance into Semi-finals. It is important to remain in open communication with team parents to be sure of the most up to date information. We will also update the Google Doc with the schedule and notes as the weekend goes on (I can't update the website from my cell phone!) If the Google Doc and the website say two different things, listen to the Google Doc.
Sunday, May 6
IMPORTANT: You must have your lanyard and park hopper pass to get on the bus and into ESPN
Plan will be determined based on standings after Sunday. We will update the Google Document as soon as information is available, and let team parents know.
